This is Why We Can't Just Have One Chip!

I love my Takis and I think I finally found out why.

According to USA Today "A study from Yale University found the combination of carbohydrates and fats into a single food creates a more rewarding experience for the brain." I mean this makes sense now since I love Fries, Oreos, Cheetos and all those other delicacies.

So the experiment to find this out involved 206 volunteers where they were given money to bid on food while their brain was being scanned. The experiment participants were more likely to bid on foods containing a fat and carbohydrate combination. On top of that the brain scans reflected stimulation that simulated reward. I didn't know this but foods containing the fat-carbo combo don’t exist in nature, except for breast milk... yikes. Snack food, on average seems to have a quarter fat and half carbohydrates. The study from Yale seems to allude to why we have such an outbreak of obesity in the U.S., this reward system feeling has a huge part to play.

Yale psychiatrist and senior author Dana Small, reported that "our modern foods, processed foods, are different. They are affecting our physiology differently," via NBC

The bottom line? As YaleNews reports, our bodies don't handle these snacks properly and “donuts, French fries, chocolate bars, and potato chips,” and their reward system “ may backfire to promote overeating and obesity.”

I'm definitely going to think twice next time I have those Takis!
