Never give up on your dreams! Chrissy Metz reflected on when she was âbroke and brokenâ ahead of landing career-making gig This Is Us while chatting with Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday, April 16.Â
The actress, who phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest to promote powerful new film Breakthrough, also recently had lunch with Oprah Winfrey and couldnât have suffered a more relatable trauma: Being embarrassed over her dirty car!Â
âItâs kind of exciting,â Chrissy said after Ryan brought up her garden lunch with Oprah. âRight? I know, what is my life?âÂ
While having lunch with the queen of all media was a surreal moment, Chrissy previously told Ry it was all too real when she realized she didnât get her car washed.Â
â[Oprah] ended up walking me to my car and I thought, âOh, great. Oh, great.â And I just had to [tell her], âI apologize, I didnât get the chance to clean my car.â And she was like, âThatâs OK, itâs OK.â And Iâm like, âI just have to talk about it.â And she was very sweet about it, of course.âÂ
Chrissy has clearly come a long way since almost giving up on her dream of becoming an actress. In a previous interview, the Emmy-nominated star revealed she was broke prior to landing the role of Kate Pearson and that she almost ditched Hollywood altogether.Â
âI was absolutely broke,â Chrissy confirmed. âBroke and broken, almost. I was going to move back home and not two weeks later did I have the This Is Us audition and 81 cents in my bank account and yeah, it happened. True story â no savings, 81 cents, yeah.â
Fast-forward to 2019 and movie studios are not only requesting her, but refusing to film projects without her.
âThe studio said âYou donât have a movie unless you have Chrissy Metzâ and I thought, 'Is there another Chrissy Metz? Like what are you talking about?ââ Chrissy adorably shared of Breakthrough. â[Itâs the] nicest thing so itâs pretty exciting.âÂ
Breakthrough is based on the inspirational true story of one mother's unfaltering love in the face of impossible odds after her son falls through an icy lake and all hope seems to be lost. Â
âItâs definitely a movie that is going to make you think and really I think open up your heart and your mind,â Chrissy concluded. âAnd because itâs a true story ⊠itâs a lot to take in, but itâs beautiful.â
